Ghosted Structures Project Complete at Mitchelville
Sitework is complete for the Ghosted Structures Project at Historic Mitchelville Freedom Park. Informed by historical data, this installment at the park includes interpretive elements representing the size and shape of the dwellings located in Mitchelville starting in the 1860s. During the course of the project—archeological investigations confirmed that this area was indeed the location of Mitchelville-era dwellings (goosebumps!). Features discovered in the area include a burn area or hearth and many household objects. Many artifacts were related to sewing or laundering, an area of employment for many women who lived in Mitchelville.
